Former Michigan QB Ryan Mallett is transferring to Arkansas.

Blue-chip recruit Ryan Mallett, who spent his freshman season as a backup quarterback at Michigan, is transferring to Arkansas, The Morning News of Springdale, Ark. reports.

Arkansas compliance director Marvin Caston told the paper he was waiting to receive an official transfer release Monday afternoon. Mallett reportedly moved into an Arkansas dorm room Monday.

Mallett was the top-rated dropback quarterback in the high school Class of 2007 but didn't seem to fit in new Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez's spread-option offense.
