BALTIMORE, Md -- Don Zimmerman of the University of Maryland Baltimore County and Missy Doherty of Towson University have been selected as the US Lacrosse Coaches of the Week for the week ending May 4. Both will be recognized on CBS College Sports' broadcast of the US Lacrosse Women's Division Intercollegiate Associates National Championship on May 12.

After nipping Binghamton (6-5 in overtime), Zimmerman's Retrievers rallied from nine goals down to beat Albany 14-13 to secure the America East championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament. UMBC is 12-3 and has won 11 straight games.

Doherty's Tigers knocked off George Mason 8-7 and then beat top-seeded William & Mary 16-7 on the road to win the CAA championship and claim a berth into the NCAA tournament.

BALTIMORE, Md. -- After leading the 18th-ranked Towson University women's lacrosse team to its second Colonial Athletic Association championship in the last four years, Tiger Coach Missy Doherty has been named as the US Lacrosse Women's Coach of the Week for the week ending May 4, it has been announced by US Lacrosse officials.

The Tigers defeated 13th-ranked George Mason on Friday night by an 8-7 margin in the CAA semi-finals before posting a 16-7 victory over 20th-ranked William & Mary on Sunday afternoon in the championship game.

In her fifth year as the Tigers' coach, Doherty has led Towson to a 53-34 record and two CAA championships. In addition, she has guided them to the first NCAA Tournament appearances in the program's history.

A 1997 graduate of the University of Maryland, Doherty was named as the 2004 CAA Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to a school-record 14 wins. In her five seasons, the Tigers have won 10 or more games three times, including 13 victories this year.

UMBC Coach Don Zimmerman was named as the Men's Coach of the Week after leading the Retrievers to the America East Championship with wins over Binghamton and Albany last weekend.

Both Zimmerman and Doherty will be recognized on CBS College Sports during its broadcast of the US Lacrosse Women's Division Intercollegiate Associates National Championship on May 12.

Now 13-5 on the season, the Tigers will face fifth-seeded Syracuse in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The winner of that game will face either Virginia or North Carolina in the quarterfinals.
