Among this year's 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award that goes to the best kicker in college football are 2005 Groza Award winner Alexis Serna of Oregon State and 2005 runner-up Mason Crosby of Colorado, as well as five others who were semifinalists a year ago.
The Lou Groza Award features a full-sized football adjoined to a slightly arched column. The entire trophy is cast in bronze and weighs approximately 30 pounds.
Judd Davis, 1993 Groza Award winner, best summed up the award by saying, "It is the best looking trophy of all the awards; a rustic version of the Super Bowl Trophy."
The award is named after NFL Hall-of-Fame kicker Lou Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns and won four NFL titles and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954.
